Ask a room of teenagers what they would do if someone collapsed in front of them, and most will say the same thing: call 911 and wait.
Calling is right. Waiting is where we can do better.
What the program teaches
The EPECARE Junior Responder Program introduces youth and young adults to hands-on emergency skills — CPR and AED use, Stop the Bleed®, basic first aid concepts, and scenario-based practice that puts them under a little pressure before real life does.
The training is deliberately practical. Participants kneel on the floor, find the right hand position, and discover how physically demanding effective chest compressions actually are. That surprise is part of the lesson.
More than a set of skills
Something else happens alongside the training. Young people who learn to act in an emergency begin to carry themselves differently. They volunteer first. They speak up. They become the person others look toward when something goes wrong.
We run the program with particular focus on underserved and resource-limited communities, where formal training has historically been hardest to access — and where a prepared neighbor makes the greatest difference.
Our goal is not only to teach lifesaving skills, but to help develop the next generation of prepared, confident community responders.
